Urad dal (split black gram) with channa dal (split chick pea)

Cooking time depends on how fresh  lentils are, in case of doubt cook each one separately, then mix them, new lentils cook faster. Always break the cloves to avoid popping. when dal is ready it should have the consistency of thick soup.

Method:
Wash and soak dals  for an hour or more in 2 cups of hot water.

Transfer  to pressure cooker or slow cooker,  add 2 more cups of hot water, salt, turmeric black pepper and ghee.

Cook  for 4 minutes in pressure cooker or till it is just cooked.

Heat the oil,  add in one after the other cloves, cinnamon sticks, cumin seeds and onion.

Add olive oil and Cook onion till translucent add tomatoes and garam masala, cover and cook till tomatoes are cooked.

Add the mixture to cooked dals, bring to boil mix frequently, lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes, mixing occasionally. Just before serving heat the dal and add garlic, green chiles and coriander leaves.

Serve with rice, parotha, nan or roti.
